Community Stewardship

Giving Back

Actively engaging in our communities is an expression of Our Values and an opportunity to give back through service. We do this by developing partnerships with local civic, community and cultural organizations, and by the compassion and generosity of our associates. A few of our charitable partners include:
  • American Diabetes Association
  • Houston Food Bank
  • Toys for Tots Foundation
  • Local elementary school projects

Green Business

Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED Silver (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) facility, our headquarters is designed to conserve energy and natural resources, and is constructed of substantially more recycled building materials than traditional buildings.

Our maintenance facility has been frequently recognized as a finalist in the CITGO/Fleet Equipment Top Green Shop Contest. Our team is always mindful of its "green" initiatives such as recycling/reducing waste, complying with government regulations and lowering our fleet's carbon footprint.

SmartWay Program

In addition to facility design and maintenance, USAL has achieved the highest rating possible with the EPA’s SmartWay Program, a public-private partnership to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact with lower emissions and less energy. Specific measures we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint include:
  • establishing speed limits of 65 mph;
  • researching the use of synthetic fluids;
  • recapping tires;
  • tracking fuel usage by truck;
  • increasing miles per gallon through tire pressure monitoring systems;
  • purchasing new equipment which emits less greenhouse gases; and
  • increasing loaded miles with backhaul opportunities.
